What is Cuban Salsa?
Cuban Salsa (also known as Casino) is a circular form of salsa dance that originated in Cuba in the late 1950s. It’s a lively and dynamic type of salsa based on a strong connection between partners. The dance is all about feeling the music and dancing in circular patterns, unlike our Linear Salsa classes. Our goal is to make your learning experience enjoyable and accessible. We’ll start with basic techniques, rhythm and partner connection. As you progress we’ll introduce new techniques and flairs to help you express yourself in your unique style. Grab your dance shoes!
Learn to Dance Salsa in a Supportive Environment
We believe that everyone can dance. Yes, even you people who think you have two left feet. They’re our speciality! We teach salsa in small groups and split the lesson into different sections based on experience. This allows our teachers to dedicate time to the needs of each student and address any questions you might have.
The classes run for one hour each every Tuesday night in Mayfield; beginners and intermediate. A lot of our experienced salsa students come to the beginner class because we split it into two groups, and any excuse for more dancing is welcome!
You don’t need experience or a partner to start learning to dance salsa. We’ll pair you up with other students and we all dance together so both leaders and followers learn the essentials. Couples are welcome and you won’t have to dance with other people if you don’t want to, but we recommend dancing with as many people as possible to get a good foundation.
Beginner-Friendly Salsa Classes
Even if you’ve never danced before, our salsa lessons are the best place to start. We warn you though - salsa is incredibly addicting and you’ll be dancing at work, on the bus and whenever you have a spare moment. Our salsa teachers have over 70 years of combined teaching experience.
Dance On Newy offers beginner and intermediate salsa classes suitable for all levels. If you’ve taken Cuban salsa or rueda classes before, get in touch with us. We’d love to have a chat about your experience to find the right class for your needs. If you’re shy or nervous about dancing, you can always come down and sit in on one of our classes.
If you’re after private salsa classes, we can sort you out with one-on-one lessons.
